meet Jim DeLano, VET
Veterinarian | Entrepreneur | Teacher
Dr. James DeLano is the managing general partner at Bishop Ranch Veterinary Center, www.webvets.com a veterinary hospital that last year cared for more than 12,000 families and their pets originating from 300 different zip codes.
In seventh grade, Jim discovered his passion for veterinary medicine as he spent time shadowing his neighbor, Dr. Theodore Lafeber, at his practice. He learned the importance of the human-veterinarian bond from his mom as they drove ten miles, past several veterinary hospitals, to go to her “favorite vet".
He began his career in Fremont, CA, 1987, at a high-volume, low-cost veterinary practice. This was followed by a six-month stint at the Peninsula Humane Society just prior to opening a small animal practice in San Ramon in 1989. Each of these jobs (experiences) taught him the importance and value of being able to communicate with clients.
In addition to the full-time management role at BRVC and seeing patients one day a week, Jim assists the faculty at UC Davis as a DVM Mentor/Coach to all four years of students. He also assists with the Veterinary Business course, leading a salary negotiation lab for the third year students.
In 1987 onboarding consisted of filling out a W4 and being directed to the exam room “down the hall”. At BRVC, we “grow” veterinarians. Our Organized Onboarding program lasts 3-6 months, is tailored to the individual and is designed to ensure maximum productivity and job satisfaction.
Our team approach facilitates mentoring of associates in medicine, surgery and communications. The successful integration of this approach has led to greater production, higher ACT’s, a higher client bonding factor, faster reduction of student debt and most important, retention of DVM’s with high job satisfaction.
